Well what strange times we all find ourselves in. We had planned a really fantastic AGM to be held at the Body Shop venue with Professor Leigh as our speaker. But as you will understand because of the current situation we can’t hold our AGM and indeed it may not be possible to hold an AGM at all this year. Below is information we have received from the MND Association.
We would like to give you the assurance that there is no legal requirement for Branches to hold an AGM, however our Branch Charter does set out this requirement. We have secured permission from the Trustees of the MND Association that due to this unprecedented situation we do not require Branches to hold AGMs in 2020.
This AGM would have been my first as Chair, where does time go? I would like to take this opportunity thank Sandy for all of her support throughout the year and also liaising with all our dedicated AVs. I would like to reassure everyone that Angela, Anne, Sue, Pattie and Pru are all in contact with our people with MND. Some good news is that we now have two new AVs, Valerie and Dena who are now fully trained and ready to support our people with MND when we can resume our face to face visits.
I would also like to thank our treasurer Alastair who does a fantastic job for the branch keeping track of all of our funds and keeping us all fully aware of how and where the funds are allocated.
Nicci and Pippa has been fantastic taking over the positions of secretary and Newsletter editor respectively in very sad circumstances. Thanks also go to Sue, Francis and Kate who are really supportive committee members and fundraisers.
Finally, I would like to offer huge thanks to Dean Donaldson for all of the time and hard work that has gone into designing our new website. Thank you for making this happen. It is amazing. We cannot thank you enough.
Branch fundraising has been good over the last 12 months. There are so many people we would like to thank for supporting us throughout the year:
- The London Guild of Toastmasters
- ABN AMRO Commercial Finance
- John Albon and his family
- The Crazy Gang and The Last Resort Club
- Zimmer Stewart Gallery
- The Sussex Classics Society
- Sussex Masonic Charitable Foundation
- The Sussex Gruffs
- An evening at Partridge Green Village Hall with dancing and music by the Startled Hamsters
- Long Ditton Cricket Club,
- Midhurst and Petworth Inner Wheel
- Cowdray Golf Club Ladies Section
- The Body Shop
We continue to appreciate all of our members and their family’s enthusiasm and efforts to raise money for the Branch to enable us to help people with MND in our area.
We at MNDA West Sussex South Branch can celebrate some really exciting news. We were nominated by a Body Shop employee to be one of the charities that the Watersmead Charity Committee would support through 2020.
Unfortunately, we have had to cancel a number of events during this time but hope to run them later in the year if possible and if not reschedule in 2021. At the moment, we are keeping our fingers crossed that the Ham Manor Charity Golf Day in August could still go ahead. I will keep you all updated as we see how the lockdown progresses. Maybe a summer party could be organised, if it is deemed safe, later in the year.
Enclosed with this branch update is a list of acting committee members and branch officers who have agreed to carry on their sterling work next year and nominations for 3 new committee members. Also, financial news for the branch in a report from the treasurer and our spring newsletter 2020.
