Last month, members of the West Sussex South Branch, Angela, Judith and Sue, met with local MP Andrew Griffith. They were also joined by Graham, Robert and Susan who are living with MND.
They talked about some of the brilliant work the Branch does to support local people living with and affected by MND, which includes hosting regular meetings, arranging visits and offering grants to help towards a range of costs such as transport or holidays.
The group also discussed the United to End MND campaign which is seeking a £50 million investment from the Government for targeted MND research. Graham, Robert and Susan explained why finding effective treatments and ultimately a cure is so important to them, their families and carers.
The meeting was very successful, with Andrew Griffith MP stating that he is keen to champion important causes that are less well known, such as MND. Vice Chair of the Branch, Judith Allen, said:
“We were nervous before the meeting as to how it would go but it was like having a conversation in your living room, very relaxed and not at all daunting.”
Meeting with your local MP is a great way to engage them in the issues that matter to people living with and affected by MND. If this is something that you would be interested in then please get in touch with Lana Ghafoor, Senior Public Affairs Adviser, at [email protected].
